Conversations with Spirits

The untidy existence of Trelawney Hart - whose incomparable genius is matched only by his appetite for cherry brandy - is summarily interrupted when Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, spiritualist crusader and celebrated author, arrives at his London club's door and demands that Hart help him investigate a man whom he believes to be a psychic medium of unparalleled gift. Set over the course of a single lost weekend in 1917, 'Conversations with Spirits' is a funny, clever and beautifully realised ramble though English society during the last years of the Great War in the company of a host of vividly-drawn characters.
